Scientific profile of the candidate - Recognised Researcher

Specific Requirements
1. PhD degree in life sciences (biology, biotechnology or related), obtained in the year of employment in the project or within 7 years before 1 January of the year of employment in the project. For researchers with multiple PhDs, the date of the first PhD award is deemed the reference date. The extension may be applied in accordance with the rules of the National Science Centre, Poland.

Additionally, the candidate for the postdoctoral position must meet the following condition:

-they did not have the principal investigator as their research supervisor or auxiliary supervisor of their PhD dissertation;

-their PhD degree has been awarded by another institution than the one planned to employ them at this post or they have completed a continuous and evidenced post-doctoral fellowship of at least 10 months in another institution than the host institution for the project and in another country than the one in which they have been conferred a PhD degree.


2. Publication record (including the first authorship of at least one published original paper) and experience in research in the field of advanced techniques in molecular biology.


3. Ability to work independently as well as in a group.


4. Practical experience in performing spatial transcriptomics, RNA sequencing using NGS and miRNA research

5. Experience in neuroscience research will be appreciated.


6. The candidate should demonstrate good experimental skills in the spatial transcriptomics workflow.


7. Ability to communicate fluently in English (written and spoken).


8. Strong motivation to work and solve scientific problems, creativity, and analytical thinking.

The successful candidate for the postdoctoral position shall, for the full term of their employment within the project, be obligated to maintain compliance with the following conditions:
-when the remuneration is paid, they will be receiving no remuneration from the funds allocated as direct costs under research projects funded in the National Science Centre calls;
-when the remuneration is paid, they will be receiving no remuneration from another employer pursuant to an employment contract, including an employer with a registered office outside of Poland; 
-when the remuneration is paid, they will be receiving no pension under the social insurance scheme.

 

Task description

Project description: The project includes advanced imaging techniques combined with artificial intelligence (AI) to identify various types of amyloids and gain a better understanding of their structures. Complex data will be analyzed with the use of AI, which will aid in detecting early and subtle amyloid structural changes. The Polish part of the project includes the following tasks: spatial transcriptomics of brain samples in Alzheimer's disease model, in situ detection of selected miRNAs and their targets in Alzheimer's disease model, and bioinformatic analysis of data.

 

Key responsibilities include:
A postdoctoral researcher is expected to plan and perform experiments independently, plan the workflow, and participate in the decision-making process.

Key assessment criteria:
The Recruitment Committee will take into account the following criteria:
- competencies for specific tasks in the research project
- knowledge and experience in neuroscience research

- practical experience in spatial transcriptomics, RNA sequencing using NGS, microscopy, miRNA in situ detection with their mRNA targets co-localisation in brain samples

- previous scientific achievements (including publications, patents, conference presentations and accomplished research project)
- awards and distinctions resulting from the conducted research
